Creative Cardiology Team Blog Hop - Curvy Celebrations

Today's post is part of the Creative Cardiology Team Monthly Blog Hop, where we are celebrating the early release of the Quite Curvy Variety Bundle.  You'll find links to my fellow blog hoppers below, and we'd love to have you hop along with us by following the links and checking out our Curvy projects!

The Quite Curvy collection of products is available to customers now, even though the rest of the January - June Mini Catalog won't go live until January 4, 2021.  I've been having tons of fun already with this product collection!

Since we will be celebrating Thanksgiving here in the United States when this post goes live, I decided to create a project using the Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) along with the dies from the Quite Curvy product collection.  I happened to come across a 4" x 5.25" piece of gold foil sheet with a punched out image in the inner part of the sheet and that sheet of paper was just crying out for the rest of it to be put to use!  The Gilded Autumn DSP with its foil accents would go so well with that gold foil sheet.

There was enough of a border around the punched area to die cut a rectangle from the center using the Rectangle Stitched Dies to create a gold foil frame.  I used the second largest rectangle from the collection to cut out that rectangle.

I decided to use Cajun Craze for my card base, and I cut a piece of cardstock to 8.5" x 5.5", and scored and folded that to 4.25" x 5.5".

I needed a layer measuring approximately 5" x 3.75" that would fit underneath my frame and decided to incorporate the Curvy theme in this area.  I chose a gold accented Cajun Craze piece of DSP with a pumpkin design and cut two 1" x 3.75" strips.  I cut a piece of Cajun Craze Cardstock measuring 3.75" x 3" and embossed it with the Dainty Diamonds 3D Embossing Folder.  These pieces were then adhered to my card front with the embossed piece in between the two DSP pieces.  And then I layered my gold frame on top.

From the rectangle cut from the inside of my gold frame, I used the flourish curvy border die to create a curvy design border on each side of a strip about 2" wide.  I then cut this piece in half and layered these on top of the embossed piece, lining up the straight edges with the edges of the pumpkin DSP.

My sentiment used another piece trimmed from the center rectangle.  I stamped my "So glad to have you in my life" sentiment (from the Gather Together stamp set) onto a 1/2" strip of Whisper White using Cajun Craze ink, and punched the ends of both this Whisper White strip and the strip of gold foil sheet with the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch.  I adhered these two strips together and adhered it to the center of my card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Another piece of the Gilded Autumn Specialty DSP has some foil accented leaves and acorns, and I punched several of these out using the Autumn Punch Pack to accent two corners of my gold frame and one end of my sentiment.

There are a lot of elements in this card that are speaking to my heart right now.  I am truly grateful for those family members and friends in my life who encourage and inspire me, and they are like gold to me - so precious!  Even though we may not be able to gather together and celebrate in the same way we have on past Thanksgiving holidays, we can still reach out and encourage each other - and one of the ways I love doing that is through creating and sending a card!

Thanks so much for checking out my blog today!  Don't forget to leave a comment if you'd like to!  And also follow the links below to check out my teammates' blogs!  We so appreciate you hopping along with us!

Creative Card-iology Team Blog Hop - 3D Project

My project today is for the Creative Card-iology team’s monthly blog hop.  This month’s theme is a 3D project.  After you check out the project I made, I hope you visit my teammates’ blogs by clicking on the links toward the bottom of this post!  I can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with!

I’ve been wanting to use the Mountain Air bundle to create a project that will remind me of the fun times and beautiful scenery from my recent trip to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and the 3D project them was the perfect opportunity!

We stayed in a vacation rental unit situated along a lake with a beautiful view of the mountain off in the distance.  I was out every morning on the back deck or down the road taking photographs as the sun rose up from behind the mountains.  One morning I surprise some foxes – or rather, they surprised me as they scooted out from the bushes and across the road near where I was kneeling to get the perfect shot!

To make my shadow box frame, I cut 3 pieces of Seaside Spray cardstock measuring 5.5” x 4.25” and ran them through my Stampin’ Cut and Emboss Machine (at the same time) with a die from the Celebration Labels collection of dies.  By running the 3 pieces through at the same time, I ended up with a window cut in 2 of the pieces and an embossed shape on the third piece that were all in perfect alignment.  This gave me an outline to start creating my 3-dimensional picture.  It actually happened by accident, as I only intended to send 2 pieces through the machine, but it worked out well for me.  Don’t you just love those kind of happy accidents?!

I stamped the mountain range image in Misty Moonlight ink onto a piece of Seaside Spray cardstock and die cut that image and another mountain range from a piece of Misty Moonlight cardstock.  I also stamped some pine tree images in Mossy Meadow ink onto Whisper White cardstock.  I inked up the sun stamp with Crushed Curry ink and then sponged some Calypso Coral and Rococo Rose Ink onto the stamp before stamping the image on Whisper White cardstock.  Then I sponged a little of the Rococo Rose ink onto the embossed piece of Seaside Spray cardstock where I planned to adhere my sun to give a little morning glow to the sky.  And finally, I stamped the girl image from the Beautiful Moments stamp set and the fox image from the Nature’s Beauty stamp set in Memento ink onto Whisper White as well.

I punched out the sun image with the 1” circle punch and die cut the pine tree images with the appropriate dies from the Majestic Mountain dies.  I also die cut a larger pine tree from Mossy Meadow cardstock using one of the dies from that set as well.  Using one of the Curvy Dies, an early release set of dies available for customer purchase beginning November 3), I die cut a curve lengthwise through a piece of Misty Moonlight cardstock measuring approximately 3” x 4.25”.

Next, I colored my girl and fox images with Stampin’ Blends, and I was then ready to assemble my 3D picture!

On the embossed piece of Seaside Spray that would form the back of my shadow box picture, I adhered my stamped sun image with Stampin’ Seal”, and then added my two mountain range pieces, trimming as needed.  The Misty Moonlight range piece was first adhered with mini glue dots, and then the stamped Seaside Spray piece was adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals on top of that, offsetting the ranges a bit.

To the bottom of my middle frame piece, I glued a piece of woodgrain Seaside Spray Designer Series Paper (DSP) that had been trimmed to 2” by 5.5”.  I then adhere the longer pine tree stamped image piece to the top of that patterned paper, trimming the DSP as needed.  The larger Mossy Meadow pine tree was adhered to the right side of the piece, and my fox was adhered with a double layer of Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I trimmed the straight edges of my curvy Misty Moonlight pieces as needed to allow for the pieces behind to show through, and then placed the one with the design edge on the top of my front window frame.  I fastened a length of Bumble Bee ribbon along the bottom of the other curvy piece and adhered that piece to the bottom edge of the frame.

I cut 4 pieces of Seaside Spray cardstock to 2” x 4.25” and made 3 scores at ½” intervals down the long side of each of the 4 pieces.  I folded these pieces along the scores, back and forth, to make “hinges” to fasten my frame pieces together.  Using Tear n’ Tape double-side adhesive, I fastened each edge to my frames.

Once I had my shadow box picture assembled, I adhered my girl image with mini glue dots to the lower left corner of the front, and then used another piece of Bumble Bee ribbon to tie a knot and form a bow.

Finally, I stamped the sentiment “Adventures Awaits” from the Beautiful World stamp set onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock and die cut the sentiment using an oval die from the Stitched Shapes collection.  A coordinating scalloped oval was cut from a piece of Bumble Bee cardstock and adhered to the back of the sentiment oval.  I then fastened them to the top right corner of my project with mini glue dots.  Two of the Bumble Bee In Color Dots were then adhered to this sentiment, and my project was complete!

I love how my shadow box picture came out, and it will definitely bring back some great memories of a fun trip!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!  Don’t forget to leave any comments you’d like to share, and then hop on over to my teammates’ blogs!

Creative Card-iology Team Blog Hop - Blossoms In Bloom

This month’s blog hop is a color challenge based on the colors of a shirt which you’ll see pictured above.  You can check out my teammates’ blogs by clicking on the links toward the bottom of my post.

Finding inspiration for cards or other projects can sometimes be a bit intimidating.  But I have been learning to look around me for inspiration – I may find it in a scenic view at home or in the mountains of Colorado or a combination of colors in a piece of clothing or other fabric pattern!

One of the things I love best about being a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator is the inspiration shared so willingly in the creative community of demonstrators and stampers. I drew inspiration for my card project today from Bruno Bertucci’s video featuring the Joseph’s Coat technique.

My card project features the Blossoms in Bloom stamp set.  I used Night of Navy for my card base and adhered a layer of Cajun Craze embossed with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder to the card base.

I used sponge daubers to lightly daub splotches of ink on a 5.25” x 4” piece of Whisper White cardstock in Petal Pink, Terracotta Tile, Cajun Craze, Balmy Blue, Misty Moonlight, and Mossy Meadow, leaving a few small spaces of the Whisper White showing.

I stamped the floral image from the Blossoms in Bloom stamp set onto the inked cardstock using Versamark Ink and then poured clear embossing powder over the stamped image.  After shaking off the excess powder, I heated up the remaining powder that adhered to the stamped image with the heat gun.  I then inked up a sponge brayer with Night of Navy ink and rolled it over the whole piece of cardstock.  The embossed image resisted the Night of Navy ink, leaving the colored cardstock showing through.  I rubbed a tissue over the embossed image, which made the colored and embossed image pop.

I cut out the image with Paper Snips and adhered it to the textured Cajun Craze layer with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Then I stamped the Thank You sentiment onto a strip of Whisper White, adhered it to the bottom of the textured layer, and added a couple of blue rhinestones from the Holiday Basic Jewels.

Using the Joseph’s Coat technique for the color challenge allowed me to use multiple colors in one layer.  I hope you try this technique and that you share your projects when you do!

I love being part of a creative community that inspires me in so many ways, and I would love to have you join my team if you’d like to be a part of a great community of stampers and crafters!  Stampin’ Up! has a Get & Go Starter Kit promotion going on through the end of September.  If you take advantage of this awesome promotion, in addition to the already great value you receive with the normal Starter Kit you will receive enough cardstock pieces to make 16 cards, a pack of Rhinestone Basic Jewels and the So Much Love and Queen Anne’s Lace stamp sets.  Click here for more info

Thanks for hopping with us today!  Don’t forget to follow the links below to check out the other projects!

Creative Card-iology Team Blog Hop - You're Someone's Blessing Fun Fold

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!  I am participating in a blog hop with a few of my friends from the Creative Card-iology Team, so once you've checked out my blog post you can hop on over to their blogs by clicking on the links toward the bottom of the post!

This month we were challenged to make “fun fold” cards.  I haven’t made a lot of folded cards, so this was stepping a little out of my normal routine!  I decided to try a layered accordion fold for my card project, using several of my favorite stamp sets and papers.

One of the things that has really hit home to me over the last few months is how much we all need to be encouraged right now.  The words we write or speak have the ability to lift up or tear down, and it is so important to speak kind and graceful words to others and to ourselves.

I love being able to make and send cards that help me convey encouraging messages to others.  My card today is going to be sent to someone who has recently been an encouragement and blessing to me.

I love all of the new 2020-2022 In Colors, but I think Misty Moonlight is my favorite!  I cut a piece of Misty Moonlight cardstock to 5 ½” x 11” and scored it along the 11” side at 4 ¼”, 6 5/8”, 9”, and 10”.  I used coordinating patterned papers from the In Good Taste, Flowers for Every Season, and 2020-2022 In Color 6x6 Designer Series Paper collections for my matted layers.

I stamped the lighthouse image from the Sailing Home stamp set onto the blue canvas patterned paper from the In Good Taste DSP collection with Misty Moonlight ink and colored the lighthouse with Stampin’ Blends from the Seaside Spray and Balmy Blue Combo packs.  The stamped sentiment on that layer is from the High Tide stamp set.

The lone girl image and “You’re someone’s blessing” sentiment are from the Beautiful Moments stamp set, and this set is just so gorgeous!  The image and sentiment were stamped on Whisper White cardstock with Misty Moonlight ink, and the girl is colored with blends from the Seaside Spray and Night of Navy combo packs (I couldn’t find my Light Misty Moonlight Blend or I would have used that instead of Night of Navy).  I die cut the girl and a larger scalloped oval with dies from the Layering Oval Dies collection.   The sentiment and accompanying card stock layer were punched with the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch.

I finished off my card with a 1” wide band to hold it closed when mailing and layered another punched sentiment on the band.

I hope you enjoyed stopping by my blog today!  Don’t forget to check out the projects on my friends’ blogs by clicking on the links below, and we always appreciate hearing your thoughts so feel free to leave a comment!

Creative Cardiology Team Blog Hop - Sketch Challenge

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!  I am participating in a blog hop with a few of my friends from the Creative Card-iology Team, so once you've checked out my blog post you can hop on over to their blogs by clicking on the links toward the bottom of the post!

This month's theme was a Sketch Challenge, which means that we were given a sketch  (or card layout) to use for our project, and we could use any stamp set, papers, or color scheme to make our card.

I used the Tasteful Touches stamp set and the coordinating Designer Series Paper and Elements from the In Good Taste suite of products to make my card.  My Thick Very Vanilla card base has a mat of Early Espresso cardstock and 3 different wood grain prints from the In Good Taste paper collection.

I trimmed the wood grain pieces to fit on my mat with an approximate 1/8" border all the way around and stamped my sentiment in Early Espresso ink on the bottom piece of wood grain paper. These patterned pieces were then adhered to the Early Espresso mat along with a length of Petal Pink Organdy Striped Ribbon, which added a touch of color and more texture to my card.

I cut a circle of Early Espresso and a slightly larger scalloped circle of Very Vanilla using the Layering Circle dies and layered these together and then adhered the circle to my card base with Mini Glue Dots.

The flower image was stamped in Early Espresso ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock.  I used Dark and Light Petal Pink, Light Calypso Coral and Dark Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends to color the flower, cut it out with Paper Snips, and then adhered it with Stampin' Dimensionals to the circle.

Finally, I colored some of the leaf elements with the Dark Soft Suede Stampin' Blend and adhered the elements with Mini Glue Dots underneath the stamped flower.

Someone asked me this week where I find inspiration for my cards and projects, and there are so many places!  I often find inspiration in seeing the layouts, or sketches, used by other card makers.  There are so many possibilities that can result from a simple sketch!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!  I love hearing your thoughts on my projects, so please leave a comment below!  Don't forget to hop along with us by clicking on the links below and checking out my friends' projects!

Let's Talk Masking!

My post today is part of a blog hop with some of my fabulous Creative "Card-iology" teammates.  Its our first one ever, and I'm so excited to be a part of it!  After checking out my blog, you can hop on over to the other blogs for more creative inspiration!

In the middle of preparing my blog post for this hop, I was reminded that my parents will be celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary next week.  And that changed what I was planning to post here.  But I still wanted to share a little of how I've been using the masking technique in my card, and masks really are a hot topic these days!

I've found it somewhat difficult to carry on conversations and really connect with people wearing a mask, but in reality we often figuratively wear masks.  As I worked on my anniversary card for my parents, I thought how important it is for any lasting relationship to be intentional about caring for each other and connecting in meaningful ways.  And that requires shedding our figurative masks and being honest, kind and forgiving with each other.  That can be very hard to do, but the dimension and depth to those kinds of relationships are so worth the risk.

So what is the masking technique?  Well, as best as I can explain it as it relates to stamping, it is covering up a stamped image so that you can stamp another image over top of it.  The second image then appears to be coming out from behind the previously stamped image creating a beautiful new image with more dimension to it.

I used the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set for my anniversary card because I just love the detail in it, and the masking technique allows my leaves to peak out from behind the sunflower.

I used Whisper White Thick Cardstock for my card base and folded it in half.  I embossed a piece of  Whisper White cardstock with the Brick & Mortar 3D Embossing Folder and adhered the layer to my card base using the new Stampin' Seal adhesive.

My sentiment was stamped onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock where I had already printed "65 years together."  I used the Just Jade marker from the 2020-2022 Stampin' Write Marker Assortment to ink up just the "Congratulations ON REACHING" portion of the sentiment and stamped it above the "65 years together."  I used the Label Me Fancy punch to punch out the sentiment and punched another piece of Just Jade cardstock using the same punch.  The Just Jade piece was then cut in half and adhered to the back of my sentiment in such a way that the Just Jade pieces framed the Whisper White sentiment on either side.  I used the long hole punch on the Label Me Fancy punch to make a hole to slide a piece of Just Jade ribbon through and tie a bow.  Stampin' Dimensionals were then added to the back of the sentiment, which was then set aside to be adhered later.

I then stamped the sunflower image in the new InColor Bumblebee ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock using the Stamparatus as I knew I wanted to restamp my image several times to get a nice dark impression.  I love using Classic Stampin' Spots to ink up my stamps when I use the Stamparatus as I find that I have more control over where the ink ends up and don't get ink on the edge of my stamps as much.  Since there is not currently a Bumblebee Classic Stampin' Spot available, I inked up an Uninked Stampin' Spot with the Bumblebee ink refill to then stamp my image.

The next step was creating the mask to cover up my sunflower image so that I could stamp the leaves in Just Jade ink.  I stamped the sunflower on a 4x6 sticky note, making sure to stamp on the end backed by the sticky stuff (very technical description, right?).  Then I cut the sticky note right along the edge of the stamped image.

I placed my cut out sticky note image just inside the outline of the image already stamped on Whisper White.  It was important to place it just inside the outline so that my stamped leaf images would line up right next to the sunflower.  If I had lined up the edges of my mask with those of the already stamped image, there would have been a space left between the flower and the leaf.

Once I stamped my leaves where I wanted them, I cut out the whole image and put Stampin' Dimensionals on the back and adhered it and my prepared sentiment to the embossed layer on my card base to finish my card front.

I hope you've enjoyed visiting my blog today, and I am so grateful you stopped by!  I love reading and replying to responses on my posts, so feel free to leave a comment!  And don't forget to follow the links below to check out my fellow bloggers' posts!

Who doesn't love sunflowers?

It pays to be careful what others in my family hear me say or see me do repeatedly during the year.  We have had a history of making Christmas a unique opportunity to highlight some of those things through gifting.  One year we all noticed my brother was never without his sunglasses, so each one of us wrapped up one or more pairs of sunglasses to give to him at our family gathering.  My mom never passed up a coin on the ground, so one year we all saved up our pennies and wrapped them up in different ways.   Which brings me to the year of the sunflowers.

One of my sisters wasn't fond of sunflowers and wasn't afraid to say so.  Now, really, who doesn't like sunflowers?  So we all decided to gift her with sunflowers in as many different forms as we could think of - if I remember rightly I gave her cheap foam sunflower placemats.

Well, the next year the joke was on us.  Each of us received our gift repurposed in some way, in a much nicer form than what was given - the sunflower placemats ended up as the padded bottom in a trinket box.  I don't remember what all my sister received or how she repurposed it, but we still laugh at how she turned the tables on us.

So when I saw the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set, it brought back some fond memories and I knew I had to try it out.  The Celebrate Sunflowers bundle includes the stamp set and dies and is part of the larger suite of products called Flowers for Every Season.  I used one of the new In Color ink pads, Cinnamon Cider, to stamp the outline of my sunflower, the leaves and my sentiment and colored my sunflower and leaves with several colors of the Stampin' Blends alcohol markers.  I used the coordinating Sunflowers Dies to die cut  my sunflower and leaves.

My card base is Cinnamon Cider cardstock, with a matted layer of Whisper White cardstock embossed with the Brick & Mortar 3D Embossing Folder.  I stamped the sentiment "wildly grateful" (from the Lovely You stamp set) onto a piece of the new In Color Bumblebee cardstock and punched out my card front greeting with the Label Me Fancy punch.  I'm loving the new Stampin' Seal adhesive, which I used to first attach my ribbon to my embossed mat and then adhere that layer to my card base.  I used Stampin' Dimensionals and Mini Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere my sunflower and punched sentiment to the card base and create a bit of dimension to my design.  I then adhered my leaves with Mini Glue Dots.  My final touch was the addition of a couple of the Flowers for Every Season Gems using the Fine Tip Glue Pen.

The Flowers for Every Season suite of products has so many beautiful products in it.  I'm sure you're going to want to use every part of it, especially the Celebrate Sunflowers bundle.  I mean, really, who doesn't love sunflowers!

Here is a list of products used in this card.  I love that Stampin' Up! now has a number that you can use to purchase an entire suite of products, and that's what I'm listing here for the stamp set, dies, ribbon and gemstones.  All of these products are available individually as well, and you can find them all at my web site here: my store.
