Creative Card-iology Team Blog Hop - Retiring Favorites

My post today is part of the Creative Card-iology Team Monthly Blog Hop, where we are celebrating and saying “so long, farewell” to some retiring favorites!  When you've finished here at my blog, please hop on over to my friends' blogs by clicking on the links toward the bottom of this post.

There are so many beautiful sets that I’ve enjoyed stamping with over the last few months, starting with stamps that celebrate Autumn and all the reasons we have to be grateful, on to Winter and the wonder of the holidays.

But there were a few stamp sets that really captivated my creative spirit over the last few weeks as I have been remembering one of my greatest reasons to celebrate and be grateful – the birth of Jesus, the reason we have a Christmas holiday.

One of the traditions that has been around for many years in the Christian faith is the celebration of Advent.  I’m really just beginning to personally discover and appreciate all the nuances and implications of Advent, but this time of remembrance and reflection has been such an encouragement to me these past few weeks as I focused on the promises in Scripture regarding hope, peace, joy and love that culminated in the birth of Christ.

One of the ways that the Advent season is celebrated is with an Advent wreath and candles.  I made two Advent themed projects over the last few weeks, one a 12"x12" sampler and the other an easel card, both featuring an Advent "wreath" and candles.

I used the Sweetest Time and Poinsettia dies to make my wreath and candles. I first stamped the candle image from the Sweetest Time stamp set twice in Memento Ink on Whisper White cardstock and cut out the candles individually.  I colored 3 of the smaller sized candles with a Light Highland Heather Stampin’ Blend, and the other smaller sized candle with the Light Rococo Rose Stampin’ Blend.  I used Tear and Tape adhesive to adhere one of the Highland Heather candles and the Rococo Rose candle to either side of the taller white candle.  The other two Highland Heather candles were layered behind and off to the side of these two candles.

I used the Poinsettia Dies to die cut and emboss leaves from Mossy Meadow cardstock and a berry sprig from Real Red cardstock.  The candle flames were punched from a scrap of Bumblebee cardstock using the Whale Builder Punch.  (Big thank you for this tip for the candle flame goes to Melissa Robb for your menorah card post in the Demonstrator Planning Place Facebook group!)

I adhered the leaves to the bottom of the candles so that the ends covered the candles and almost met in the middle. I cut some of the berries from the sprig and adhered these over the center point where the leaves almost met.  And the candle flames were adhered to the top of the candles with the Fine Tip Gle Pen.  This Advent wreath and candle display was the focal point of both my card and my sampler.

The sampler uses the Snowflake Splendor and Plaid Tidings Designer Series Papers, as well as a few other stamp sets or bundles that are retiring in the Year-End Closeout. A full product list for the sampler is listed below.  I don't have time or space to go into all of the details for the rest of the sampler, but you can request tutorial information here.

My easel card uses a Sale-A-Bration Designer Series Paper that will be available soon with the start of Sale-A-Bration in January, and it is a “free with $50” purchase item.

Creative Cardiology Team Blog Hop - Curvy Celebrations

Today's post is part of the Creative Cardiology Team Monthly Blog Hop, where we are celebrating the early release of the Quite Curvy Variety Bundle.  You'll find links to my fellow blog hoppers below, and we'd love to have you hop along with us by following the links and checking out our Curvy projects!

The Quite Curvy collection of products is available to customers now, even though the rest of the January - June Mini Catalog won't go live until January 4, 2021.  I've been having tons of fun already with this product collection!

Since we will be celebrating Thanksgiving here in the United States when this post goes live, I decided to create a project using the Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) along with the dies from the Quite Curvy product collection.  I happened to come across a 4" x 5.25" piece of gold foil sheet with a punched out image in the inner part of the sheet and that sheet of paper was just crying out for the rest of it to be put to use!  The Gilded Autumn DSP with its foil accents would go so well with that gold foil sheet.

There was enough of a border around the punched area to die cut a rectangle from the center using the Rectangle Stitched Dies to create a gold foil frame.  I used the second largest rectangle from the collection to cut out that rectangle.

I decided to use Cajun Craze for my card base, and I cut a piece of cardstock to 8.5" x 5.5", and scored and folded that to 4.25" x 5.5".

I needed a layer measuring approximately 5" x 3.75" that would fit underneath my frame and decided to incorporate the Curvy theme in this area.  I chose a gold accented Cajun Craze piece of DSP with a pumpkin design and cut two 1" x 3.75" strips.  I cut a piece of Cajun Craze Cardstock measuring 3.75" x 3" and embossed it with the Dainty Diamonds 3D Embossing Folder.  These pieces were then adhered to my card front with the embossed piece in between the two DSP pieces.  And then I layered my gold frame on top.

From the rectangle cut from the inside of my gold frame, I used the flourish curvy border die to create a curvy design border on each side of a strip about 2" wide.  I then cut this piece in half and layered these on top of the embossed piece, lining up the straight edges with the edges of the pumpkin DSP.

My sentiment used another piece trimmed from the center rectangle.  I stamped my "So glad to have you in my life" sentiment (from the Gather Together stamp set) onto a 1/2" strip of Whisper White using Cajun Craze ink, and punched the ends of both this Whisper White strip and the strip of gold foil sheet with the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch.  I adhered these two strips together and adhered it to the center of my card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Another piece of the Gilded Autumn Specialty DSP has some foil accented leaves and acorns, and I punched several of these out using the Autumn Punch Pack to accent two corners of my gold frame and one end of my sentiment.

There are a lot of elements in this card that are speaking to my heart right now.  I am truly grateful for those family members and friends in my life who encourage and inspire me, and they are like gold to me - so precious!  Even though we may not be able to gather together and celebrate in the same way we have on past Thanksgiving holidays, we can still reach out and encourage each other - and one of the ways I love doing that is through creating and sending a card!

Thanks so much for checking out my blog today!  Don't forget to leave a comment if you'd like to!  And also follow the links below to check out my teammates' blogs!  We so appreciate you hopping along with us!
