I chose to use items from the Flowering Zinnias Suite of
products for my blog project, and I decided to create a vintage look. The Simply Zinnias Bundle (stamp set and dies)
is currently available to purchase, but the Flowering Zinnias Designer Series
Paper pattern I used for this card is expected to be back in stock mid-April. Don’t let that stop you from trying this technique
though, as you can create a vintage look with any paper!
My Real Red card base is a standard 5.5” x 8.5”, scored and
folded to 4.25” x 5.5”, and my first layer is Early Espresso cardstock
measuring 3.5” x 4.75”. And then I used
one of the brightly colored floral patterned papers from the Flowering Zinnias for
my next layer, which measures 3.25” x 4.5”.
To create my vintage look, I used a Blending Brush to brush
Petal Pink ink all over the patterned paper, and then followed up by blending
Crumb Cake ink starting from the outside edges and moving in to the center, but
leaving the center most part with just the Petal Pink ink. My final brush of ink around the very edge of
the patterned paper was with Early Espresso ink. I used a Paper Butterfly Accent as a stencil along
with Crumb Cake ink to create some texture marks on the patterned paper.
Then I used a Stampin’ Spritzer to spritz the paper with
water and wadded up the paper while it was still damp. I laid the paper out flat and let it dry.
My zinnia image is stamped in Real Red ink, but if I did it
again I’d probably stamp in Stazon inkd probably stamp in Stazon inkd probably
stamp in Stazon ink as I colored my image using a Blender Pen and Real Red and
Old Olive ink. I had to be careful when coming
close to the stamped outline of the image so that my outline didn’t get smudged. But I really like the shading I was able to
get on the zinnias with the Blender Pen and ink.
My Basic White sentiment label measures 0.75” x 3.25” and is
stamped in Early Espresso Ink. I arranged
some Linen Thread behind my sentiment label and adhered it with Mini Glue Dots
to my cardfront.
I adhered my stamped and colored floral image with Stampin’
Dimensionals. I added some extra
blending to my Paper Butterfly Accent with Early Espresso, Petal Pink and Real
Red inked ink and adhered it to the zinnia image with carefully cut and placed Stampin’
Dimensionals and a Mini Glue Dot. My
final touch to the card was to add some Rhinestone Basic Jewels around the
Paper Butterfly Accent.
