Super Simple Detailed Dogwood Cards

Welcome back to the Creative Card-iology Team Blog Hop!  February is winding down, and Sale-a-bration is almost over – only one week left.

Have you ever needed a card in a hurry?  I did tonight – I totally lost track of my time this month, and found myself with a blog post due tomorrow morning and no project done yet.  So I went back to one of my favorite Sale-a-bration items, the Detailed Dogwood stamp set (free with $100 order).  The detailed images in this set are perfect for super simple cards using just stamps, ink and paper.

To keep my project super simple, I used the Basic White Note Cards & Envelopes and Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.   I simply stamped the large dogwood image in the Tuxedo Black Memento ink on the front of the note card, then stamped the “Hello There” sentiment from the Softly Sophisticated Stamp Set (part of the Softly Sophisticated Bundle, a free with $100 Sale-a-bration item) underneath the image – and my card was done.  Within 5 minutes or so, I had 4 note cards stamped.  I also stamped the smaller bud/branch image along the left edge of 4 envelopes, and the I was ready to start writing my blog.

Making cards doesn’t have to be a complicated process when you have such beautiful stamps to work with!

And of course, you don't have to limit yourself to just stamps, one ink color and paper.  Add in a few ink colors, cardstock and a couple of tools, and with just a little extra time, you can step up your card a bit with cute fun fold card using the same stamp sets.

Sale-a-bration is a great time to get started stamping if you’ve never stamped before or if your wish list is pretty long!  You get free products when your order is $50 or more.  And if you have a long wish list, you’ll want to take advantage of the starter kit special – get $125 in product for only $99 plus tax and your choice of the the Stampin’ Glass Mat Studio or an additional $30 in product in your starter kit. Check out all the Sale-a-bration specials on my website.

Each month our Creative Card-iology blogging team also collaborates on a tutorial bundle.  With every order you place through my website, you can receive the current month's tutorial free!  If you place an order in the next week, I'll also send you the March team tutorial as well, as I plan to share the details of my note card fun fold using a different stamp set.

Sale-a-Brating with Detailed Dogwood

Welcome to our January Creative Card-iology Team Monthly Blog Hop!  January is one of my favorite months as a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator because a new mini catalog comes out and it’s Sale-a-Bration time - and that means free product with orders of $50 or more.  Don’t you just love FREE stuff?

One of my favorite free (with $100 order) items in the Sale-a-Bration brochure is the Detailed Dogwood stamp set, and I loved the cards featured with this stamp set (page 15).  So I decided to c.a.s.e (copy and selectively edit) the design.

I also love the Stampin’ Glass Mat Studio that is a FREE bonus option for the Sale-a-Bration Starter Kit join special (choose $125 of products and pay just $99 (includes shipping) and choose one of the bonus options).  I use my glass mat all the time, and this project was no exception.

I used the Stampin’ Brayer to cover a piece of Basic White cardstock with Petal Pink ink and then applied Wild Wheat ink with a Blending Brush around opposite corners of the cardstock.  One of the reasons I love the glass mat so much is how easy it is to apply ink with a blending brush, bringing the brush in from the glass mat onto the cardstock.  And it’s so easy to clean up the ink from the glass.

My next step was to tap my Calypso Coral ink pad onto my Clear Block E and then spritz the inked block with water.  I pressed a wad of plastic wrap into the spritzed ink and then applied it to my cardstock in 3 places.

I lined up the long dotted texture stamp from the Detailed Dogwood stamp with a grid line on my glass mat, inked it up with Petal Pink ink, and then laid my cardstock piece over it centering the long bottom edge over the inked stamp.

I stamped the shorter woven texture image just above the dotted image about ½” from the left edge, and then immediately stamped the image again just above and to the left (without reinking) so that the image ran over the left edge of the cardstock.  I stamped the small floral image in Calypso Coral ink over this textured image and also stamped the dragonfly image in the upper right corner in Calypso Coral ink.   I stamped the ampersand image in the lower right corner in Petal Pink ink, about 1” from right and bottom edges.  My final step for this piece was to distress the edges with Early Espresso ink.

On a separate piece of Basic White cardstock, I stamped the larger dogwood image in Early Espresso ink and the ticket image in Wild Wheat and then cut both images out with Paper Snips.  I also punched a sentiment label using the Heartfelt Hexagon Punch.

The sentiment I used is from the Softly Sophisticated stamp set and embossing folder bundle in the Sale-a-Bration brochure (another free with $100 item).  I used the Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker from the Neutrals set to color just the “hello” portion, stamped it on my hexagon at the top left, and then cleaned off the stamp.  Then I colored the “there” portion of the sentiment stamp and stamped it underneath.

I spritzed a piece of Early Espresso cardstock with water, wadded it up and then unfolded it and then ran it through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine with the Softly Sophisticated Embossing Folder.  I finished off this cardstock piece by brushing the edges with Wild Wheat ink.

After cutting a 3 ¾” piece of Natural ¼” Wavy Trim, I now had all my piece ready to assemble my card as shown above.  My final step in assembling the card was to adhere some Calypso Coral Opaque Faceted Gems (another FREE item – with $50 order) to my card front.

For our Team Tutorial bundle this month, I designed a slimline panel that can be used for a card and which I used for the front cover of a journal made from discarded return envelopes.  I followed a similar process to that above and created a page layout for my journal.  You can receive the Team Tutorial bundle free with any order placed with me this month.  Check out all the new products at my webstore here.

There aren’t enough words to tell you how much I LOVE my Stampin’ Glass Mat Studio!  I know you’ll love it too, and I would love to help you get the Glass Mat free with a Starter Kit.  You can email me at kimskeepsakecreations.com or click here for more information.

Heartfelt Hexagon Angel Treat Packaging

Welcome to the November Creative Card-iology Team Monthly Blog Hop!  This month our theme is treats/giftables projects.  I decided to make an angel treat holder using the Heartfelt Hexagon Punch, an early release from the Spring Mini Catalog.

The treat holder can be made with any paper, but I chose the Joyful Specialty Designer Series Paper collection for my treat holder.  I love the colors, patterns and foil accents in this collection of papers.

I punched 4 hexagons from one pattern and 2 hexagons from the distressed gold patterned paper or the gold foil sheet.

Two of the hexagons form the treat holder base.  I glued the two hexagons together in opposite directions, then scored along the sides of each hexagon to form a 1” box when folded and corners glued together.

The other two hexagons became the bodies of my angels that would be adhered to opposite sides of the base. I die cut two Basic White circles for the angel faces using the second smallest circle die from the Stylish Shapes Dies collection.

The two gold hexagons were cut in half for the angel wings.  When I used the gold foil sheets to punch hexagons, I embossed the hexagons with the Distressed Tile 3D Embossing Folder.  I first attached the circles the tops of hexagon bodies, then attached the wings.  I made sure to line up the hexagons, circles and wings as I adhered everything together so that both sides would match when adhered to the box base.

Once I had the angels adhered to the base, I pulled the heads together and punched a hole in the top of the heads.  I cut a 6”-8” piece of the gold Elegant Trim, folded it in half and pushed the loop end through the punched hole.  Then I pulled the ends through the loop and tied a knot in the ends.  The halo was then placed down onto the head over the trim.

My project might have required a little “out of the box” imagination to see an angel in the hexagons, but it was kind of fun trying to figure out how to make it work.  This treat holder could also double as a tree ornament.

The Heartfelt Hexagon bundle is just one of the bundles featured online currently and will also be in the new mini catalog.  I can’t wait for the rest of the new catalog items to be available!
