Creative Card-iology Team Blog Hop - It's time to Sale-A-Brate!

It's time for the Creative Card-iology Team Monthly Blog Hop again, and this month we are celebrating Sale-A-Bration!  It's that Stampin' Up! time when purchases of $50 or more earn free Sale-A-Bration products - so much fun!  Thank you for celebrating with me here on my blog today, and when you're finished here, I hope you'll continue the celebration and hop on over to my teammates' blogs by clicking on the links below.

I chose to use the Touch of Ink stamp set (free with $100) and the Field & Flower Designer Series Paper (DSP) collection (free with $50) for my blog project.  I love the images in the Touch of Ink stamp set, and the colors and patterns in the Field & Flower DSP collection are so bright and bold they just make me smile!

Before the Stamparatus came arrived, I totally avoided using 2-step stamping because I had a difficult time lining up the images just right.  I have a much easier time with 2-step stamping now using the Stamparatus, but the photopolymer stamps in the Touch of Ink set make is super, super easy to get beautiful 2-step stamped images!  Or you can just stamp the outlines and leave it at that or color the images - beautiful any way you stamp them!

I had so much fun stamping with this stamp set that I had a hard time deciding what project to share today!
The one I finally decided on has a card base of Cherry Cobbler, with a beautiful black and reds floral pattern design from the Field & Flower DSP collection layered onto a Basic Black cardstock mat.

I die cut an oval from white cardstock and a scalloped oval from black cardstock using the Layering Ovals dies and stamped my floral image and a sentiment from the Grace's Garden stamp set (the two stamp sets pair beautifully together!) onto the white oval with Memento ink.  I stamped the fence and a floral image from the Grace's Garden stamp set onto Blushing Bride cardstock and die cut those with the coordinating Garden Gateway dies.  I wanted to give an impression of motion to the hummingbird, so I stamped the hummingbird twice, once on white cardstock and a second time on vellum cardstock.

I colored the Grace's Garden floral image with Rococo Rose and Shaded Spruce Stampin' Blends, starting with the Light Blend of both colors first, and accenting with the Dark Blend.

For the Touch of Ink floral image, I first covered the image with Light So Saffron Blend, and then used the Light Rococo Rose Blend over that.  I did some shading along the stamped outlines with the Dark Rococo Rose Blend.  I don't always use a 3rd color when using the Blends, but I think using another color might add a little depth to the coloring.

I googled hummingbirds to see how I should color my hummingbird images, and I found pictures of the ruby-throated hummingbird that I though would go nicely with my red themed card.  I colored both hummingbird images the same way, first coloring the throat area with Light Cherry Cobbler Blend, and then going over the rest of the images with the Light Sea Foam Green.  Then I colored the head, belly and part of the wings with Light Crumb Cake.  I added some shading with Dark Crumb Cake and Dark Sea Foam Green.  I also added a little bit of Light Granny Apple Green at the bottom of the wing area near the belly, as my googled photo had some bright green coloring there.

Once I had my images all colored, I was ready to put my card together!  I first cut some slits in my fence pieces and threaded a length of the Blushing Bride Metallic Ribbon through the slits.  I laid my ribbon across the DSP layer and fastened the ends to the back of the DSP with adhesive.  I moved my fence pieces where I wanted them, one to the left hand side and the other on the right hand side, leaving a little room for my Grace's Garden floral image.  I added glue dots to the back of my fence pieces and adhered my Grace's Garden floral piece with Dimensionals.

I then adhered the DSP layer onto the black cardstock layer and fastened that matted layer to my card front.  I glued the white oval onto the black scalloped oval and adhered it to the card front next to the fence, which left some room to slide a ribbon underneath and tie a knot around the ribbon threaded through the fencing.

I used the Fine Tip Glue Pen to add glue to the back of the vellum hummingbird along some stamped lines along the wing area near the belly and glued it to the colored white hummingbird, aligning the stamped outline as best as possible.  Once that glue dried, I placed dimensionals on the back of the hummingbird and adhered it to my card front.

Creative Card-iology Team Blog Hop - Retiring Favorites

My post today is part of the Creative Card-iology Team Monthly Blog Hop, where we are celebrating and saying “so long, farewell” to some retiring favorites!  When you've finished here at my blog, please hop on over to my friends' blogs by clicking on the links toward the bottom of this post.

There are so many beautiful sets that I’ve enjoyed stamping with over the last few months, starting with stamps that celebrate Autumn and all the reasons we have to be grateful, on to Winter and the wonder of the holidays.

But there were a few stamp sets that really captivated my creative spirit over the last few weeks as I have been remembering one of my greatest reasons to celebrate and be grateful – the birth of Jesus, the reason we have a Christmas holiday.

One of the traditions that has been around for many years in the Christian faith is the celebration of Advent.  I’m really just beginning to personally discover and appreciate all the nuances and implications of Advent, but this time of remembrance and reflection has been such an encouragement to me these past few weeks as I focused on the promises in Scripture regarding hope, peace, joy and love that culminated in the birth of Christ.

One of the ways that the Advent season is celebrated is with an Advent wreath and candles.  I made two Advent themed projects over the last few weeks, one a 12"x12" sampler and the other an easel card, both featuring an Advent "wreath" and candles.

I used the Sweetest Time and Poinsettia dies to make my wreath and candles. I first stamped the candle image from the Sweetest Time stamp set twice in Memento Ink on Whisper White cardstock and cut out the candles individually.  I colored 3 of the smaller sized candles with a Light Highland Heather Stampin’ Blend, and the other smaller sized candle with the Light Rococo Rose Stampin’ Blend.  I used Tear and Tape adhesive to adhere one of the Highland Heather candles and the Rococo Rose candle to either side of the taller white candle.  The other two Highland Heather candles were layered behind and off to the side of these two candles.

I used the Poinsettia Dies to die cut and emboss leaves from Mossy Meadow cardstock and a berry sprig from Real Red cardstock.  The candle flames were punched from a scrap of Bumblebee cardstock using the Whale Builder Punch.  (Big thank you for this tip for the candle flame goes to Melissa Robb for your menorah card post in the Demonstrator Planning Place Facebook group!)

I adhered the leaves to the bottom of the candles so that the ends covered the candles and almost met in the middle. I cut some of the berries from the sprig and adhered these over the center point where the leaves almost met.  And the candle flames were adhered to the top of the candles with the Fine Tip Gle Pen.  This Advent wreath and candle display was the focal point of both my card and my sampler.

The sampler uses the Snowflake Splendor and Plaid Tidings Designer Series Papers, as well as a few other stamp sets or bundles that are retiring in the Year-End Closeout. A full product list for the sampler is listed below.  I don't have time or space to go into all of the details for the rest of the sampler, but you can request tutorial information here.

My easel card uses a Sale-A-Bration Designer Series Paper that will be available soon with the start of Sale-A-Bration in January, and it is a “free with $50” purchase item.
