Creative Card-iology Team Monthly Blog Hop - For the Guys

We're celebrating Stampin' Up!'s new kit collection for this month's Creative Card-iology Team Blog Hop.  Each of the kits in the collection contains everything needed to make the projects, some include stamps and ink and others are non-stamping kits.  These kits are perfect for anyone who wants quick and easy projects, whether a new or an experienced crafter.

I chose the "For the Guys" card kit because I love the outdoor/mountain theme, and I thought it would be great to use the stamp set for my Father's Day card this month.  This kit makes 10 cards (5 each of 2 designs), and includes the stamp set and block, an ink spot, card bases, envelopes, adhesives, and all die cuts needed. The cards were so easy to put together!

When I saw this kit, I thought it would coordinate nicely with the Mountain Air bundle.  So once I put the cards together, I used the stamp set, along with discarded pieces from the kit and the Mountain Air bundle to make my Father's Day card.

I used Crumb Cake cardstock for my cardbase, first cutting it to 10" by 7" and scoring and folding it to form a 5" x 7" card.  I also cut the layers I would need for the rest of my card.  Working from the cardbase up, these layers were:

Layer 1:  Mossy Meadow - 4.5" x 6.5"
Layer 2:  Basic White - 4.25" x 6.25"
Layer 3:  Crumb Cake - 2.75" x 6.25"
Layer 4:  Gray Granite - 2.5" x 6.25"
Layer 5:  Mint Macaron - 1.5" x 6.25"
Layer 6:  Mossy Meadow - 1.25" x 6.25"
Layer 7:  Crumb Cake - 4" x 5.25" (for shield)
Layer 8:  Basic White - 4.75" x 6.75" (for inside card)

Using a pencil and the template formed where I punched out my mountain ranges for my kit cards, I traced mountain ranges onto the Crumb Cake Layer 3 and Gray Granite Layer 4.  When I reached the end of the template (but not the end of my 6.25" layer), I flipped the template over and kept tracing until I reached the end of my layer.  I used Paper Snips to cut the mountain ranges.

I stamped and die cut some pine trees from the center of the Mossy Meadow Layer 1 using the Mountain Air stamp set and coordinating dies and Mossy Meadow ink.  Using the Stamparatus, I stamped the range of trees on the Mossy Meadow Layer 6, and then moved my plate down the hinge to stamp the tree range again so that my full 6.25" was stamped with a tree range.

I figured out where I wanted to stamp my sun on the Basic White Layer 2 by placing the layer on the Stamparatus, lining up the Crumb Cake Layer 3 mountain range with the bottom of the Basic White layer, and then placing the sun stamp where it would peek up over the mountain range.  I flipped my Stamparatus plate down to the base so that the sun stamp would cling to the plate, lifted the plate and removed the Crumb Cake mountain range.  Now I was ready to ink up my sun and stamp it onto the Basic White Layer 2.

I first inked up my sun stamp with Daffodil Delight ink.  Using Blender Brushes, I tapped Flirty Flamingo and Calypso Coral ink onto the sun stamp as well.  Making sure my Stamparatus magnets were in place, I closed the lid and stamped my sun onto the Basic White Layer 2.  Using the sun rays stamp from the For the Guys kit, I followed the same inking procedure and stamped around my sun 3 times, starting from the top center and then to both sides.  I adhered the Mossy Meadow Layer 1 and stamped Basic White Layer 2 to my card base.

I then layered my mountain range Layers 3 and 4, the Mint Macaron Layer 5, and the Mossy Meadow tree Layer 6 onto my card front.  Using glue dots and dimensionals, I adhered the stamped die cut trees along the bottom edge of my card front.

One of my favorite memories of time with my dad during my childhood is going with him on Sunday afternoons to read Scripture, often from the Psalms, to my great-grandmother who was confined to bed at the time.  I wanted to include some Scripture verses from the Psalms on my Father's Day card, and in Psalm 84:11 it says "For the Lord God is a sun and shield".  The For the Guys card kit stamps were so perfect for this passage!  I formatted the Scripture passage on my computer so that it would fit into the shield frame (left from punching out shield die cuts for my cards).  I then printed the verse onto the Crumb Cake Layer 7 and cut it out with Paper Snips.  I brushed the edges of the shield with Mossy Meadow ink, and then adhered the shield to my card front with dimensionals.  I also stamped the bird image from the Mountain Air stamp set several places on the Basic White Layer 2.

For the inside of my card, I stamped the sun rays and "Happy" and "Father's Day" sentiments from the For the Guys card kit onto my Basic White inside Layer 8.  I also printed a second verse at the bottom of the inside layer.

I hope you've enjoyed this glimpse at the For the Guys card kit, and seeing how you can keep on using the stamps even after your card kits have been put together!
